Community in mourning as 12-year-old crash victim is named

THE schoolboy killed on a Hampshire road yesterday has been named.

Twelve-year-old Aarron John Keeping, died when his pedal cycle was in collision with a blue Ford Focus at the junction of Ringwood Road and Burley Road, Bransgore.

Aarron, of Burnt House Lane, Bransgore, was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, was shaken but uninjured.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and bailed until December.

Floral tributes have been placed at the scene of the crash on Ringwood Road outside the Crown pub.

One poignant message left at the crash scene said: "We will miss you loads, RIP."

Another said: "You were a credit to your friends and family and we were proud to have known you. You made us smile."

Some local residents called for traffic lights, speed humps or a 30mph limit at the scene, claiming there had been several accidents in the vicinity during recent years.

Sergeant Phil Lamb from the Totton Roads Policing said: “Our thoughts are with Aarron’s family at this sad and difficult time.

“I’m appealing for anyone who witnessed this collision to contact me as a matter of urgency so we can piece together a better picture of what happened.”

The accident happened around 4.30pm yesterday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Lamb at the Totton Roads Policing Unit quoting Operation Parfold on 0845 045 45 45 or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I love cycling, but it has become so dangerous. It is very hard to extoll the virtues of getting out in the fresh air on their bikes to kids when the roads are just so unsafe. My thoughts are with this poor lads family.

I live in bransgore, and have felt for years this is a very dangerous crossing, and now there is a skate ramp at the park more children will be crossing at that junction. Surely a mini roundabout could be built...my daughters go to the school and are deeply upset. Our hearts go out for the family friends ,and everyone involved..R.I.P

So sorry and so so sad, I live on the Burley Road, madness it is a 40mph road, when saw our local counsellor was told only change if something serious happened! Well it has and the Crown junction is lethal, poor kids of Bransgore have no safe crossings lights or zebra! They are just kids, up to the council to listen, also the Crown needs to demolish the extension that blocks the view when coming out of the village, so dangerous.

i knew this kid, he gets on my bus to school. everybody was just in stunned silence this morning when they found out it was someone that we all knew. that crossing has been dangerous for years, and something needs to be done about it.
its just a shame that this had to happen before the council relise how dangerous it is. hopefully now something will be done.

this is such a sad story. i get off my bus at the bus stop opposite the crown inn, and always have trouble crossing this road. it is extremely dangerous, and maybe now someone has been hurt, the council will pay some attention to it and do something.

I live on Burnt House lane and my thoughts and condolences go out to the family of Aarron. My daughter and I are both deeply upset and saddened on hearing the news. The Crown crossroads has always been lethal and something now needs to be done! Burley Rd-40mph is Madness, my daughter goes to Bransgore school and we cross it everyday. The council needs to do something for the kids of Bransgore,a new skate park is great on the recreation ground, lets see a crossing to get there safely. Burton village..20mph and humps!!

Unfortunately I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Aarron but his accident has deeply affected me. I can not walk passed the Crown without my eyes filling up with tears at the thought of what happened. My heartfelt thoughts are with his parents, family and friends. I really hope this makes the council sit up and do something about this horrific junction. As Liz and Andrea said above with the new skate park at the rec and the kids wanting to ride to it how can we secure their safety when the road leading there is so dangerous? Don’t lets see any more accidents before something is done - lets do something now. Speed humps leading to the junction are an idea as this immediately reduces drivers speed.
