REASSURANCE was sought that long-term plans to build up to 10,000 homes in Fareham would not spill into the Winchester district.
Councillor Angela Clear, Liberal Democrat member for Wickham, raised the matter at a meeting of Winchester City Council.
Councillor George Beckett, who leads the authority, said its position was that the 10,000 homes should be inside Fareham’s boundary.
He added that the council also wanted to protect the green gaps between Wickham, Knowle and the proposed homes.
Cllr Beckett added that no decisions had been taken, and that the authority was waiting for Fareham to produce its latest plans in spring 2009.
