A well contested game, between 2 fairly even sides, but Tyro eventually ran out 2 – 0 winners, thanks to a goal in each half from Harry Hawkins.
Tyro started well & always looked to spread the ball wide & get crosses into the box. From 1 cross early on & good pressure from the forwards, the Wyvern defence were unable to clear the ball & Harry Hawkins popped in the opener.
Tyro continued to play good football, using the wings well & caused more problems to the Wyvern defence, but without scoring again. The Tyro defence was put under pressure later in the first half, but stood firm, with James Ferrier making 1 very good save.
The 2nd half was also fairly even, but Tyro snatched another goal after 15 minutes, when Harry Hawkins nipped in between a defender & goalkeeper, to poke it past them & go on to put the ball in the net to make it 2-0.
Being a year older, Wyvern’s extra strength was starting to show towards the end of the game & they put Tyro under quite a bit of pressure, which, mostly, the Tyro defenders managed to deal with.
On the 1 occasion Wyvern did get through, James Ferrier made another excellent save, to preserve the “Clean Sheet.”
A very good performance for the squad’s first competitive game together, with some encouraging signs for future games.
Thanks to Wyvern Under 12s for playing their part in a very good, competitive & entertaining game.
