ALMOST 100 firefighters battled a blaze at two thatched cottages in Micheldever, near Winchester, last night.
They were called to the fire at the semi-detached properties on the A33 London Road at 4.32pm.
Road diversions were put in place as firefighters brought the flames under control, salvaged the occupant’s possessions and removed thatch from the roof. No one was injured.
The cottages severely damaged and both roofs destroyed.
The fire was believed to have started in the lounge of one of the cottages where there was an open fireplace.
A fire service spokesman said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire but the exact cause had yet to be determined.
Fire crews were damping down remaining hotspots this morning.
