THE body of man has been discovered in the back of a lorry on a Hampshire motorway.
The Italian lorry was stopped by police officers on the M3 between junctions nine and 10 at 10am this morning, when the body was found.
The believe the dead man to be Asian and between 25 and 30 years old.
The 45 Italian lorry driver has been detained and is currently being questioned by police.
A post mortem is due to be carried out on the body in an attempt to ascertain the cause of death, and the coroner has been notified Detectives from the constabulary’s Major Crime Department and Winchester CID are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
They are appealing for information about the lorry after reports that other people may have been in the rear of the vehicle when it entered the country.
Hampshire Constabulary is liaising with Surrey Police and Kent Police to conduct a search of the motorway networks.
In particular, officers would like to hear from anyone who saw the lorry - which entered the UK via the Channel Tunnel this morning - driving along the M25 or M3. It is described as having a white cab and blue, tarpaulin curtain sides.
