Fluoride gets green light Down Under

Anti-fluoridation protesters Anti-fluoridation protesters

THE fluoridation debate is still raging on the south coast of England, but governors on Australia’s Gold Coast have made up their minds.

The process of adding fluoride to the water of 3.7 million Queensland residents began this month, after the state parliament voted to make it law to add it to public supplies.

Southampton’s health chiefs have hailed the move as further proof the city should follow suit, in a bid to improve poor dental health in children.

“In the past two months alone, we have seen a major step forward with a further 11 million people in California drinking fluoridated water,” said Southampton City PCT consultant Dr Jeyanthi John.

“Now there are a potential further 3.7 million people in Queensland.

“We in Southampton now have a golden opportunity to benefit from this tried and tested public health measure for combating tooth decay.”

But the Queensland initiative, initiated by State Premier Anna Bligh, has proved controversial and has led to some political commentators suggesting it could see her voted out of office.

Campaigners, who like those in Hampshire argue fluoridation is unethical mass-medication that can lead to health problems, are vowing to fight the law with a legal challenge.

Ms Bligh, great-great-great-great-granddaughter of William Bligh, the captain of HMS Bounty during the famous mutiny in 1789, announced plans to make fluoridation mandatory after taking office late last year.

Around 70 per cent of Australians already drink fluoridated water.

Her scheme, affecting all communities of more than 1,000, was passed overwhelmingly by the state parliament in March.

“Many major urban areas of Australia have had fluoridated water for over 40 years,” said Ms Bligh.

“There is no evidence of any health problems. But they have better teeth than ours.”

But not everyone supports the scheme.

“There is widespread scepticism, particularly among farmers,” said Australian writer and broadcaster Ross Fitzgerald.

“The Bligh government has estimated about 30 per cent of the population is not in favour of water fluoridation, so you can bet the number is much higher.

“In the state election due next year, the Liberal National Party (led by an opponent of compulsory fluoridation), may well ride to power on the back of this debacle.”

Just because the Australians have, why should we? If they are happy to poison themselves, then good luck to them!

Nobody wants the fluoride in our water, apart from councils and the ill informed. What I would like to know is:
a) How many five year olds drink water.
b) How much do they need to drink in order to be beneficial.

Why should we pay for fluoride when free novelty toothbrushes and mouthwash would be better, plus the help for parents from dental profession on how children should brush their teeth.

I have not seen a dentist in 17 years because I learnt correctly how to brush ones teeth.

In America the States that have introduced fluoride in the water have had poorer dental care since the introduction because they no longer brush their teeth, they think the fluoride will solve the problem.

Correct brushing is all that is necessary not the waste of money on a poisonous waste product.

“In the past two months alone, we have seen a major step forward with a further 11 million people in California ..."

Sorry, but the numbers game doesn't mean a thing. Using the same sort of (Southampton PCT) logic, one could say that more people are obese now than at any time in history, but it doesn't mean that obesity is a good thing. In fact it is a killer.

Quite.

I wonder if the 11 million in California got a say if it was added or not?

In all honesty, I'm struggling to care. Given that I smoke and drink too much, I don't think that flouride is going to be the deciding factor in my fate

Whether it is a good thing or bad (I am against) fluoride, the whole thing smells of dictatorship. What it does do is to add to the disquiet feeling of 'taking over' our lives. It is not just fluoride, its everything dictating our lives - is it any wonder that the people of Southampton say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We are truly fed-up with the bad decisions made by Joe Bloggs Councils. Truly money is thrown at all 'experts', all ideas are thrown at us and in consequence cowboys appear to be running this country, albeit PCT, dentists, Caring for the elderly 'experts' who disrupt the most caring of society, quangos run amock and so called exciting plans for Southampton are presented, all add up to the enormous expense and salary claims, even our lovely New Forest have these quango committees - PLEASE - GIVE US A BREAK - we are up to our necks with dictators who think they know best - WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!

Thanks for your input, Iain. You have complete control over your vices, and that's your choice.

However, the PCT (or whatever) is trying to force this fluoride rubbish onto us whether we want it or not, without giving us a choice.

You can watch short videos at both fluoridealert.org and waterloowatch.com. What some real experts on science instead of the health department who just state policy backed up with deception and endorsements by people who do ZERO safety research.
Nteu280.org is the EPA union website that shows a history of strong opposition to fraud they have discovered in 1985. Documents altered by management to reverse findings and 90% of current negative research ignored. They filed lawsuit that the Safe Drinking Water ACT was violated in every manor. It still is as it is supposed to protect the most at risk with a extra margin of safety for any harm. It does the opposite for fluoride. See Bill Hirzy PHD of the EPA unions ask congress to halt fluoridation again in congressional hearings in 2000. In 2005 11 EPA unions asked congress and also for fluoride to be treated the same as arsenic and lead with a goal or ZERO. Just like the law requires. 29 FEB 2008 19 Unions asked. This is a red flag and about concerns far beyond just dental damage long know caused by fluoridation. Well over a dozen negative health effects are know to be caused or worsened by fluoride toxicity. Fluorides are cumulative toxins and half of all intake stays in your body forever.
The other kicker not mentioned is the product used is smokestack scrubber waste ored installed to lessen cattle killed by tooth and bone damage and crops downwind also. Phosphate factories also used to provide 75% or US uranium yellowcake but the recovery units were closed leaving all the radioactivity in the products or stored in huge waste piles outside.
The claimed thousands of studies do not exist as not a single one every by any government has yet to be done for chronic health effect or benefit. The FDA has never reviewed or approved any ingested fluoride product to date. It got approved as used prior to 1938 of sort of grandfathered in but the FDA later admitted after 2 year delay the only use know was rat poison and insecticide. It is excellent for that but most rats get Warfin now and they give us the old rat poison. Those are the facts folks. Except only lies from the health department as they do not read the current science or history of this total scam. Industry spent big money to fool us suckers and the Dentists know even less about ingested fluorides. Read at pubmed Yoder K.M. 2007 and see most dental professionals tested so far below failing there was disbelief. Very few dentists know the science but have memorized the theory proven dead wrong decades ago. Ingested fluorides have little or no value but cause much dental damage. Topical might have reminerization effects but no proof of such at 1ppm yet. At 1000ppm as toothpaste yes but so much is swallowed by young kids that it often causes very ugly enamel damage from fluoride toxicity. The old studies showing benefit were not anything that resemble real science. The big recent studies show no meaningful benefit but delayed eruption makes it look like some for the youngest. Cavuities are delayed for adult teeth slightly. India did the biggest study ever and fluoride at .6ppm and above increased cavities and Japan found .4ppm and above increased cavities. It surely increases enamel damage in every study and even worse when low levels of calcium, Magnesium and Vit C. Pour nutrition is the cause of poor dental health and cavities. Ingested fluorides only incresase harm to all exposed.
Calcium fluoride(natural fluoride) is much less toxic then H2SiF6 which is that smoklestack scrubber waste that is at least 25 times more toxic for killing rats by LD50 scale. Lots of studies for accute toxicity for killing anuimals.
When Poughkeepsie NY water board aked the health department lots of questions they refused to answer a single one. Poughkeepsie ended 50 years of fluoridation. Get real answers not deceptive statements. They will come up short every time. Go to Nteu280.org and see why thousands of real scientists say stop the fraud.

If anyone feels I incorrectly stated something please state what in detail. That means dentists and health department types and anyone else. Feel free to take a shot. Open debate makes us all better. It is truely rare to get answers from the health departments that are anything other then policy statements and generalities. Current real studies please. Pizzo 2007, Burt Detroit 2007, York review 2000 is almost always misquoted as real findings were poor for fluoride. Showed fluoridation tripled dental fluorisis from 15% to 48% with 12.5% bad enough ugly to need cosmetic restoration. Sarey this is never mentioned for consent to damage your kid for life. Colgate made some settlements in UK for damage to teeth. Lawsuits for Kidney damage and osteoscarcoma cancer will most likely be the first lawuits for damage in US as attorneys are recruiting damaged people now..
Actually airborne fluorides had more lawsuits in the US between 1957 and 1968 then the next 20 contaminates combined. The damage around the factories is now much less as all that toxic waste is put in our water to spread the damage all around in small amounts that take decades to damage except for dental damage which only takes a few years. Tell me in detail how this is incorrect. The AWWA standard for H2SiF6 is b703-06 and has a full page of over 20 contaminates most radioactive. Get a copy from the water department as the AWWA will charge over 50 bucks. By the way prior to 1945 the AWWA limit on fluoride was 0.1ppm as they knew fluorides damaged teeth at 1ppm. Strange how money can buy science. Jim
