SOME stars get streets names after them while others get airports and pubs.
But actress Stefanie Powers could be about to set a new trend – after her fans showed their appreciation for her by having an antelope named after her.
The American star took time out from playing the Fairy Godmother in panto at Southampton’s Mayflower theatre to meet the four legged friend at Marwell Zoo yesterday.
Famous for appearing in the 1980s crime drama Hart to Hart and with over 200 TV and film appearances under her belt, Stefanie interrupted her hectic schedule to drop in after two ardent fans paid for her to sponsor the bongo.
A keen conservationist, Stefanie helped create the William Holden Wildlife Trust in memory of her husband.
She said: “The bongo is a very special creature for me. I’m thrilled to have a bongo named after me here in Marwell. Going in and feeding them was like being at home!”
Melanie Bohm and Katja Fielder, who flew over from Germany to see their heroine in the pantomime, paid £50 to adopt one of the antelopes for the actress.
The money will go towards the annual cost of housing and feeding one of the creatures.
