A HAMPSHIRE couple who agreed to marry within days of meeting have celebrated their Diamond Wedding.

Morris and Dorothy Yeomans decided to wed three days after meeting at a table tennis club.

Retired civil servant Morris, 82, worked at the government’s GCHQ in Gloucestershire for 40 years. Prior to that he was in the Royal Navy.

When the couple had their son Brian and daughter Jean, Dorothy gave up her telephonist work to look after them.

Afterwards Dorothy, also 82, went back to work for various companies.

Since they moved to Romsey from Gloucestershire 12 years ago, the couple, who have two grandchildren, have enjoyed going on P&O cruise ships. On their last one aboard the Arcadia, they were given a bottle of champagne after it was revealed they were the longest married pair on the cruise.

Former GPO telephonist Dorothy said: “You have to give and take, luckily we are both very easy going.”
