A MAN has died after he is believed to have taken an ecstasy tablet that he bought in Winchester city centre.

The body of the homeless man, who was aged in his twenties and believed to be from Poland, was found at a property in Christchurch Road, Winchester, this morning at 10am.

Detectives believe he may have died after taking an ecstasy pill that he bought in the city centre at around 4pm yesterday.

They are now warning residents who may have bought similar pills, described as a white diamond shape with a mark across the middle, not to take them.

A post mortem to ascertain the man’s exact course of death is due to take place as soon as possible.

Detective Inspector Jo Smith said: “Until we can establish exactly how this man died we are urging anyone who has bought one of these tablets in the Winchester area in the past 48 hours to please be careful and not to take it.

“All controlled drugs carry risks but we just don’t know how dangerous these pills are.” “If you have one or are offered one to buy then don’t take the risk.”

Anyone with information should contact temporary detective sergeant Emma Barrow at Winchester CID on 0800 555 111 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
