A SOLDIER from the 1st Battalion Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment has died today following a "shooting incident" in Iraq.
Ministry of defence bosses this afternoon confirmed the death which occurred at the Basra airport base where the soldiers - known as The Tigers - are staying.
No further details about how he died, or his identity, have been released while next of kin are informed.
The soldier has been deployed to Iraq with the battalion, which recruits in Hampshire and across the south of England, since December last year as part of Op Telic 13.
A spokesman for the MOD said: "It is with deep regret that the MOD must confirm that a soldier serving with 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (1PWRR) died this morning in a shooting incident in the Contingency Operating Base, Basra. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated."
