SHE is a pop legend of the 1980s whose famous anthem still fills dance floors around the world.

But two decades after releasing chart topper The Only Way Is Up, Yazz is back and performing for her Hampshire fans.

The iconic singer whose pop favourite spent five weeks at number one in 1988, is appearing at The Romsey School next week.

But far from launching her own Take That-style nostalgia tour, the 48-year-old will be speaking about her life experiences and new-found Christian beliefs.

The former cat-walk model will take questions from the audience and perform tracks from her latest album, which was produced in studios in Totton.

Now living in Spain with her 17-year-old daughter, Yazz works with drug addicts and alcoholics alongside the Christian Charity REMAR.

The Daily Echo took to the streets of Southampton to find fans of Yazz's classic track The Only Way Is Up

Yazz agreed to appear in the town after a request from her Romsey-based keyboard player Phil Le Cheminant.

But he said she was unlikely to perform her most famous track when she takes to the stage on Thursday evening.

The “Fame 2 Freedom” event starts at 7.30pm on Thursday at The Romsey School. Tickets cost £2.50.
