THE man wrongly convicted for the murder of a Southampton woman has said he is sorry for the pain his case has caused her family.
Sean Hodgson has spent 27 years behind bars for killing Teresa De Simone in 1979, but last week it was revealed new DNA evidence proved he could not have been the murderer.
Speaking for the first time since the news broke that he is set to be released from prison, the 58-year-old said he is excited but nervous about tasting freedom for the first time in nearly three decades.
He said he was sorry for the pain the case had caused Miss De Simone's family adding that he was mentally ill when he initially confessed to the killing.
