The Saints pub in Millbrook has new owners

NEW owners have taken over The Saints pub in Millbrook, Southampton.

Southampton-based developers Wickborne Homes have taken over the site from Enterprise Inns and are now working on a £20,000 facelift. They hope to reopen the pub next month.

The firm will then work with the city council and hold consultations with residents on plans to develop the site with a new pub and new houses.

Said director, Rob Wickens: “First and foremost is a burning desire to provide a pub on the site, although sadly the existing pub is too large and unwieldy to be kept in the long term.

“However, there is the option of providing a new pub on the site together with a small terrace of community houses to the rear.”

The directors of Wickborne previously ran The Maybush pub through the 1990s and co-director Paul Osbourne is president of The Golden Ring boxing club which supports local youngsters.

Have you noticed that the story has two headlines? The one on the list of stories is different to the one on the article itself.

Looks like they're trying to be extra sneaky with the pun!

So the Wickborne directors used to run the Maybush pub and also have a director as the president of the Golden Ring boxing club. I bet they get paid on time!

What exactly is a 'community house' and how is it any different to... say... a house.

Or is someone trying to throw in buzwords like 'community' to cover the fact that they've bought as boozer and are going to bulldoze it to build a few cheap shoebox homes... erm sorry I mean 'community shoebox homes'

Such an important headline, boy they must be short of news today. Will we hear when other pubs get new owners or is it just to be this one?

I'm amazed at a time when nearly 30 local pubs have closed that The Saints would still be open. Let's hope the term FAMILY doesn't mean drunk parents dragging their kids our until closing time as it was before.

Dear Echo,

Can you please sack your sub-editor? It's not big and it's not funny.

All the best,
