MARK Wotte believes Saints need a “typical English” centre forward and centre half to compete in League One next season, writes ADAM LEITCH.

Wotte has already started planning for the next campaign even though his own position is uncertain until a buyer is found for the club and makes their wishes known.

The head coach believes Saints may have survived in the Championship before the ten point deduction had they had a stronger presence up front and also at the back to prevent the continual shipping of goals from set-pieces.

Wotte recognises that side of the game will be even more crucial in League One, hence why he wants to recruit two new players.

He said: “I know if we can improve the way we play in certain aspects that we can win a lot of games next season."
