PLANS to open a strip club between two family restaurants have been given the green light by council chiefs.
Glamour lap-dancing club, which will feature fully nude dancing, could open its doors at Southampton’s Leisure World complex in as little as two weeks’ time.
Swiss banking giant UBS, which owns the site, had objected to squeezing the adult entertainment between restaurants Ask and Frankie & Benny’s.
But councillors approved the application for the club to open from midday to 5am.
Carl Farrely, owner of Fareham-based Glamour Bars, which is behind the venture, told the city council’s licensing committee that strict security meant no under-18s would be allowed on site, and no one would be able to see in from outside.
With backing from police, he also allayed fears a new strip club could lead to prostitution.
Pole dancing classes will be offered during the day, with adult entertainment starting at 9pm.
Committee chairman Cllr Brian Parnell said there was no legal reason to refuse the club permission.

Unless the diners are to be issued with X-Ray specs, I'm not quite sure why its location is an issue.

Well, that's two fewer kids going to the cinema there, then! Bad luck to every other business sited in Leisure World.

Thank goodness for that. They surely would have broken from your grip and made a dash for the nearest poledancer.

Why's that? Is it because you can't trust yourself not to abandon the kids and pop in for a quick dance?

How many thought they had red lights and will be going in to check the colour scheme. Excuses, excuses.

I'm sure that our local MPs can mount a 'fact-finding' mission and bang in the expenses?
Likewise - our beloved councillors might also wish to have 'hands on' insights - again this can be paid for by us ratepayers.
If not - how about the Echo organising a competition with free passes to this new club?
PS How come we dont get a lapdancing club in Woolston?
