THE son of a 98-year-old “neighbour from hell” has backed council bosses attempting to evict his mum from sheltered housing.

Nigel Plaisted said his mother Mary, who is facing being kicked out of her Lordshill home for bringing misery to her neighbours for over a decade, had been well cared for by social services – but was a “belligerent” and “aggressive” woman.

As revealed by the Daily Echo,Mrs Plaisted’s catalogue of antisocial behaviour includes banging on the windows and doors of her neighbours’ flats at all hours, assaulting council staff and carers with a walking stick and shouting obscene remarks.

Mr Plaisted, 65, who lives near Minehead in Somerset, said he had made repeated attempts to get his mother to move to a care home but she continually refused.

He said: “She has been very belligerent and has resisted going into a care home for the past 20 years.

“It really isn’t a case of a sweet old lady being picked on by the council – quite the opposite.

“She has been extremely well looked after by social services despite the abuse they get from her.

“She should be in a care home but no one will take her given her terrible record.”

He added: “We try to keep tabs on her the best we can but it’s very difficult. She is absolutely adamant that she isn’t going anywhere. It’s a very difficult situation given her age.”

Documents obtained by the Daily Echo revealed Mrs Plaisted’s telephone was cut off after she made hundreds of 999 calls for no reason, and social services removed her emergency call button after she raised the alarm 500 times in one month.

Residents said Mrs Plaisted wanders into traffic in all weathers wearing little but a shawl to appeal to drivers for help and she fakes calls to attract attention.

Mr Plaisted revealed that his mother has hit him with her walking stick as recently as three weeks ago.

He added: “She has been a very aggressive woman all her life, to her family but unfortunately also to neighbours.

“When I used to live with her she would row with everyone.

“We haven’t been close for many years, but I do see her quite often, I drive down to make sure she’s OK.

“I’m the only family member who dares to go near her.

“I came down to Southampton a few weeks ago to check up on her and she beat me with her walking stick. She’s as strong as an ox.”

Backing the eviction plan, Mr Plaisted said: “She has been given so many chances and everyone has bent over backwards to appease her. I knew this would eventually come to a head because she annoys the neighbours so much and has done for years.”
