Palatial Romsey residence with a 34-seat cinema and retreat from nuclear war!

IT is a palatial wonderland, complete with a 34-seat cinema, 15-berth nuclear shelter and underground aquarium – and it could be yours for a cool £7.5m.

Developers are billing Golden Hill as an “exemplary residence, which affords the occupants every conceivable comfort and convenience”.

It has even caught the eye of England football captain John Terry, but the Chelsea star’s interest cooled because it was too far away from his club’s training ground in Surrey.

The eye-watering price tag includes a breathtaking array of luxury features, from a 50ft master bedroom to a “double height” ballroom and indoor swimming pool and orangery.

Outside a 100m lake will lead to a summer house – itself a two-storey retreat featuring a lake-view aquarium.

The house, set in 11 acres, also caters for the ultra safety-conscious.

Those in fear of nuclear warfare can take refuge behind the “blast doors” and “anti-bandit” security glass of a 15-berth shelter. The radioactive-proof concrete chamber, fitted out with a kitchen, bathroom and sleeping quarters, can also withstand “violent and repeated impacts”, according to the building specifications.

If even that fails to provide the necessary protection, occupants can make their escape through a secret underground tunnel.

The shell of the 22,000 sq ft building, off Sandy Lane, on the outskirts of Romsey, has already been completed and developers are now waiting for a firm bid before bespoke interior design work takes place.

That will mean fitting out the ten bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, seven kitchens and two-bedroom staff apartment as well as constructing an optional underground garage for ten cars.

It will also mean putting the finishing touches to the property’s green technology. Solar panels, a wind turbine and ground source heating will all help boost the owner’s green credentials.

Steve Bernardez, from developers A&B, said: “John Terry loved the house and if it had been in Surrey he probably would have bought it.”

Phillip Parratt, from estate agents Morris Dibben, which is handling the sale, said that he expected plenty of interest from the rich and famous or globetrotting tycoons.

“It is going to end up being a very special bidder for a very special property,” he said.

Phew. That's a relief. I linked to this immediately I saw it, fearful that this might have been news of the Romsey MP. The headline had that sort of ring to it! Should have known better. Sorry Sandra, you're holding up well and from what I've seen on Twitter, you're also doing a very good job as an MP...

Is Jon Pertwee looking for work again?
Seriously, this is an awful looking house, much nicer ones around Hampshire (with real character) for much less.

I think it is wrong that someone who can afford £7.5m to buy this place will only pay about £2,750 per year in council tax, yet someone living in a home on the lowest banding will pay £900 per year.
