Police appeal against licence for Stokes Bay music festival

A POPULAR Hampshire festival could be axed if police win their battle against council chiefs.

Hampshire Constabulary has launched an appeal against Gosport Borough Council's decision to give the green light for the Stokes Bay Festival at the end of July.

Officers fear the location of the event at Brune Park and Bay House School will lead to alcohol-fuelled disruption for residents and people's safety being put at risk with crowds moving between the two sites.

They believe the location is not suitable for a festival and camping and that the council has failed to consider any of their initial objections over safety, crime and traffic.

Chief Superintendent Karen Manners said: "The sites proposed this year are not the historic sites of this event and we believe that using sites in such close proximity to residential housing would present unique problems for the community.

"We believe these sites are unsuitable for the festival and that if the festival were to go ahead as proposed it would have a detrimental effect on the surrounding community."

The appeal will go before Fareham Magistrates on June 5.

Police out to ruin everyone else's fun once more. What's the next headline going to be?

"Police Confiscate Barbie Doll From Six Year Old Girl"

"Police Burst Football"

"Police Tell Dying Children 'Santa isn't real'"

Alcohol-fuelled disruption for residents! Whilst I admit I know nothing about the location of the new site, I have been to this event over the past couple of years and have yet to see any problems caused by festival goers. Last year the police didn't need to enter the festival site so why object now? Sounds to me like a case of residents wanting the festival but not on their door-step and and the police out to ruin everyone else's fun!!

Once again our law
enforcers acting so heavy handed against
people who are doing
no harm,enjoyment
never used to be illegal, while the real law-breakers get
away with anything and everything they
want to do.Guess it's
easier to stop the music and innocent
enjoyment, than stop the real yobs and
**** who rule our streets/towns now.
Police State,you're
not joking.

This has to be a case of the tail wagging the dog.

We seem to pay thousands of pounds on policing yet the only service I seem to get is trafic fines. And police reefusing to deal with incedence around a football ground because they are not being paid to do so

Once again I ask... Haven't the Police got better things to do?

Instead of wasting their time ruining social events which are good for the local community, why not put that effort into stopping drug dealers, etc.

I pity the Soul Cellar - graffiti goons are always spraying an 'R' in front of the sign.....

It's going to be very hot there tonight though. Might be tempted

"Your fist is hurty, ouch, stop hitting me! My ears are bleeding I can't hear the music!"

boo-hoo, say no to festivals! you should be thanking these upstanding gentlemen for protecting you against your own stupidity!
