Mobile Exchange in Portswood scene of attempted armed robbery

POLICE are hunting two would-be robbers who tried to hold up a Hampshire store with a double-barrel shotgun, this morning.

The attempted armed robbery happened in Mobile Exchange on on Portswood Broadway, Southampton.

Around 9.35am today, two men went into the store and one produced a firearm concealed in his clothing, which detectives believe was a sawn-off double barrelled shotgun.

Before making any threats or demands, both men turned and fled the shop, running down Portswood Road before turning onto Westridge Road.

Both men are described as white and aged between 25 and 30-years-old. The first has short grey hair and was wearing a blue top and black trousers, while the second has short black hair, was wearing black clothing and was carrying a brown briefcase type bag.

The shopkeeper was the only other person in the store at the time. No-one was injured.

Detectives and scenes of crime officers are currently examining the shop and officers are patrolling the local area.

Officers have now lifted the cordon around the shop, but are continuing to look for evidence in nearby drains.

Detective Inspector Roger Middle from Bitterne CID said: “Portswood was very busy at this time of day and there were a lot of people around who may have seen these two either acting suspiciously before entering the shop or running out of it.

“I’m asking anyone who knows these two or saw them before or after to contact us as soon as possible.

“I am sure with the public’s help we can piece together the movements of these two before and after the incident and arrest them as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DI Middle at Bitterne CID on 0845 045 45 45 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.

just plain weird??? Who brings a brief case to an armed robbery? Are they sure of the report?

Having been a patron of his shops for 15 years now, I doubt they were robbers at all, but rather were just customers trying to get his attention, finally. What were they hoping to rob anyway? Some 5 year old mobile phones, a cheap ukelele and that ancient, busted Marshall speaker he's had since the olden days in St Marys?

Nothing in there worth selling either, judging by the proprietor's attitude to customers. Miserable git that he is

Perhaps they sawed off the wrong half of the shotgun and held the man up with a double barreled tube.

I suppose because you think him miserable he deserves to be ribbed. What a sad exsistence you have. You wanna get out more.

He was a music shop for years long before he moved into mobile phones and the like, remember. Bought a few guitars and amps from him in my time, as well as recording gear. Not quite what you had in mind, eh

Ribbed? Or robbed? Do you get off on whining and telling everyone else they need to get out more? I haven't said, anywhere, I think he deserved to get ribbed/robbed. You need to get out more, maybe learn to read properly, as well as learn proper, literal, use of the word "literal".

And, yes, I'm perfectly aware I'm signed in as my "cloned" account. You're not a "genius" for working out that Jim Smyth and stmarysmush are both synonyms of the same person. You may now stop following me around, if you like. Your obsession is touching but dull

Erk! Glad the guy wasn't hurt, and they got away with nothing, but I have to wonder, what were the robbers thinking? The shop's never been particularly busy, and his stock isn't particularly valuable. Odd story

I remember when he was just a music shop. I bought my first tube amp from him, when he was next to the Jailhouse. He never carried much stock, but you got the occasional gem in there, which is why the few people that go back there, go back there.

I think the Police can expect some surges of calls later on.....
25-30yr old man/men, one wearing a blue top and black trousers with grey hair, the other dressed in black.....
That narrows it down to about 3.2billion people!

Good work inspector, I think we can crack this case in next to no time!

Crimewatch would not even show this on Tv! Can you imagine how it would turn out? :

"Get down on the floor you Melon....oh wait is that a Nokia 3200? That was so 1990's! Let's do a runner, we will never make it with those bricks for phones!"

Security word : Cell-back (no word of a lie)

First the bike bandit, then the newsagent was robbed and now the mobile shop is a victim of attempted armed robbery. Yet Portswood must be one of the worst areas for illegal parking, shopliftingm bullies on bikes on the pavement and now armed robbery. Yet we do not see a policeman from one year to the next year. I wonder how stormtroopers will help ?

I don't think he deserves to 'ribbed' or robbed but if you ever venture in there he is one miserable unhelpfull git.

what the thieves thought they'd get worth having only the idiot with the gun will ever know.
