BOASTING exclusive views of the world’s most famous ocean liners, you would think homes here would come with a hefty price tag.
But the price of properties along this street in Southampton is just a drop in the ocean.
International Way in Weston has topped the list as the cheapest place to live in the South East, where you can bag a bargain home for just £39,400.
The long and winding road, which was once home to 60s pop icon Heinz Burt, has been revealed as the most affordable street in the region by Mouseprice.com’s annual Street Rankings report.
The Mouseprice most affordable rankings for 2009 found that the South East came seventh out of ten regions, with the average price of homes costing £45,120.
The North West came top where homes cost around £32,004 but the cheapest home in England and Wales can be found in Fernhill, Moutain Ash, in Wales, costing £24,640.
But homes in International Way, which is lined with tower blocks and looks over the Southampton Water, came in more than £5,000 below the region’s average.
It comes in at £900 cheaper than it is nearest competitor, Mantle Close in Gosport where homes cost on average £40,300.
Just 300 yards down the road from second place, Nimrod Drive in Gosport grabbed third place, with homes holding a £40,700 price tag.
One resident of International Way, Justin Crewe, has nothing but high praise for his street and feels very privileged to live in a flat with such a great view that doesn’t leave him bankrupt.
The 49-year-old retired church organ builder said: “I love it here. As somebody once told me it is like a street that goes upwards instead of outwards. It’s very unique so I would pay a lot more than £39,400.
“The only other place you get such great views of the water is Ocean Village but those homes cost a fortune.”
