DETECTIVES investigating the double murder at Gosport have been given more time to quiz three men.

The first victim was found in the road in Alma Street, Gosport, on Friday morning. He was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Another man was found dead with stab injuries in a nearby house.

A 27-year-old local man and two men from London, aged 19 and 21, can be questioned for another 36 hours. This comes after magistrates granted a custody extension.

Neither of the dead men have been formally identified by police.

Officers are carrying out high visibility patrols in the area and working closely with community leaders to provide reassurance to residents. The incident has shocked the close knit community.

Alma Road has been cordoned off while police gather forensic evidence but other temporary road diversions have been lifted.

Detective Superintendent Sara Glen thanked members of the public who had provided information.

But police are still keen to hear from anyone who was in the Alma Street area between 6.30 am and 7 am on Friday and might have seen or heard something that would be vital to the investigation.

Anyone with information should contact the Fratton major inquiry room on 08450454545.
