British Transport Police have launched an investigation but are not treating the incident as suspicious.

A spokeswoman for South West Trains said the incident involved the 7.55am service from Poole to Waterloo.

She said: "Our immediate concern is for the welfare of the person involved and we are now assisting police with their inquiries.

"The service involved was delayed by around 30 minutes as a result of the incident.

"However, full operation was restored at around 9.20am and services are now running normally."

She added the train was not damaged and there were no injuries to any passengers or staff.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "BTP can confirm that a woman has been injured after being struck by a train at Totton rail station today, Monday 6 July.

"The incident, which was reported to police at 8.56am, is being treated as non-suspicious.

"BTP officers attended alongside paramedics from the local ambulance service."

"The woman was been taken to hospital for treatment."

I would now like to thank (not) that woman who has now ruined the driver of the trains job who will have nightmares for the rest of his life & go through months of sleepless night, not forgetting the passengers on the platform.

bit harsh ric, but i see your point. sad when anybody feels they cant go on and suicide or attempted suicide is the only way out, but yes there's now going to be so many more people affected by this than just her family.

very sad.

Sorry I was harsh, but knew a driver for ews who had to retire/leave the job he loved at 42 because of this & had a mental breakdown himself, never been the same since & that was 12 years ago,now drives a taxi.

Harsh you clearly have no compassion. Think about what drove this poor woman to do this ( the driver will now claim thousands and have six mounths off on full pay to get over it)

Unfortunately with suicide, somebody has to witness/discover the outcome.Whether it's the extreme of throwing ones self in front of a train or having a nice warm bath with a bottle of Scotch and a belly full of pills.

No but i used to work in the legal profession and know that his union will make sure he has the best care possible and if he can't return to work will be retrained to work elsewhere in the rail industry or possibley given a medical pension if he can't continue to work. ( there are no winners in a tragic event like this only losers on all sides)

It does not say that she attempted suicide or if it was an accident, by misstepping.

She may have had eyesight difficult? You knows?

She could have been pushed (this has not yet been ruled out)

But if it was attempted Suicide, I agree with Ric's comments.

Killer, You are talking irrelevant rot.
The report does not say that the woman was attempting suicide, so perhaps people ought to wait until there is a fuller report before they jump to conclusions.

Additionally, not all drivers are Union members and the Union can do absolutely nothing without the help and co-operation of the train company, and they rarely want to know. As someone else said, the vast majority of drivers who have experienced this sort of trauma do not return to work on the railway.

As someone who has had experience of picking up the bits after such an incident I can assure you that the trauma is not something that goes away overnight.

I agree that this is incredibly selfish of the woman (if she was trying to commit suicide). But then suicide is by definition, selfish. Where you can only see your self, and are not able to deal with whatever is happening to you.

Unfortunately this lady did jump onto the track - the train went over her -she then amazingly got up, crossed to the other side of the track and laid down. She was helped off the track by one of the staff members. She is obviously a very very sick lady and needs sympathy and compassion not ridicule.

Couldn't agree more.Shame other don't share your compassion.

The woman obviously had problems to want to do this, but the way she done it was totally selfish. There are ways of killing yourself with effecting other people. I feel sorry for the driver and witnesses.

1) South West Trains should fit cow catchers to the front of their units.
2) People would be less inclined to lie in front of trains if train toilets still discharged onto the track. Progress has some strangely unpredictable side effects.

By not dying, of course. I don't know if you've ever noticed, but some trains aren't travelling at 120mph

As a daily traveller on the train from Totton to Southampton I always get frustrated when trains are delayed because of incidents like this, however, having been a witness to this lady launching herself onto the track in from of the train yesterday and then trying to talk to her once she had laid down on the other track I changed my opinion. Yes, we can all agree suicide is selfish and I cryed pretty much all day yesterday thinking about it but the woman was so confused and distressed, I felt for her and her family. Goodness knows how she survived and managed to walk away with what looked like just a broken arm, but I'm glad that she did.

Is this the worst attempt at suicide ever? how rubbish must you be to throw yourself in front of a train and by all accounts receive nothing more than a glancing blow and relatively minor injuries? The train driver does deserve everyones sympathy, he was just going about his business and never asked to be involved in any of this, maybe it's the fault of the family/health service here for allowing an obviously disturbed woman wander about unchecked

How is she "obviously" disturbed? Prior to the self-pwn attempt, it's perfectly possible no prior clue was given. You seem to think that family/health service have magical "nutter" detecting powers, and that all mentally ill people wander around in a daze, dribbling, ringing their bell and wearing an "I'm a mentalist!" sandwich board. Further, you assume that anybody who acts out of the ordinary is "obviously disturbed". You know nothing of these matters. Absolutely nothing. GO retreat. Perhaps you think anybody who has ever said "me so sad :-(" should be sectioned off for their own protection, and let you "normal" people trundle around the daily greyness, doing the same thing day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day

So you think there's some grey area as to whether she was disturbed or not do you? She jumped in front of a train, now i'm no expert but that would say to me that she had problems but perhaps you know better and assume this to be normal behaviour? perhaps in St mary's everyone's doing it and the health service is first-class, but i'm guessing it's not.
