Detectives are appealing for information to help trace a second Land Rover Freelander seen on the day of an armed robbery at a jewellers in Cowes, Isle of Wight.
Officers were called to Benzie in Cowes High Street at approximately 3.15pm on Friday, July 3, 2009 when two masked men smashed the shop's front windows to steal at least 15 high value watches.
The robbers were recorded on CCTV using a stolen Land Rover Freelander as a getaway car from the scene.
This Freelander had been stolen from an address in Rew Street, Gurnard on Thursday, July 2. It was seized by police when it was found abandoned at the entrance to Northwood House in Cowes shortly after the robbery.
CCTV footage of the raid
Officers are now investigating witness reports of a second Land Rover Freelander being driven in the Cowes area on Friday, July 3, 2009.
Detective Inspector Nick Heelan of Isle of Wight CID said: "Police are keen to trace a similar Freelander, which is also believed to have been in the Market Hill and High Street areas of Cowes on the afternoon of Friday, July 3.
"This second Freelander is not linked to the robbery or any suspects, but detectives need to identify the vehicle and its owner to exclude both from enquiries.
"There are more than a hundred Land Rover Freelander owners registered on the island, and I would ask any who were driving in Cowes last Friday to contact police as soon as possible."
