About turn from stores over salute to the Tigers posters About turn from stores over salute to the Tigers posters

As the soldiers prepare for their homecoming parade a number of high street giants have refused to display a poster of support but many have now had second thoughts.

Starbucks – Originally said no to taking the poster but after top level talks have agreed to place it on their notice board which all customers will see when they enter the global coffee giant’s city centre venue.

KFC – A spokesman said: “After talking to head office we are happy to support troops by putting a poster in our window.”

Ann Harvey – “We want to do anything to support our troops”

T-Mobile – “The area manager is happy to waive the rules on this occasion and put the poster up.”

Boots – “After a talk with head office about shop window guidelines we are more than happy to display it in our window to support the troops on parade.”

Burger King – After staff at the Above Bar Street restaurant said they were unable to put up the poster due to company guidelines, the firm’s franchise business leader for Southampton overruled the decision to allow them to support the campaign.

Ridiculous. It's a shame these companies didn't read the public support for them in the previous article and have bowed to pressure from the Echo and put the posters up.

And I'm not taking anything away from the heroic job our troups are doing before you start!

How about a list of who's refusing so we can boycott their shops!

What a truly loathsome, cynical initiative by the Echo. They've misjudged this one completely.

Would you also like a list of companies that choose to NOT advertise in the Daily Echo so you can boycott them too?!

I'm glad some people get what the paper's done here. Bullying shops to advertise the Echo, great journalism.

I hope all of the stores involved display their own posters, not the shoddy one which the Echo's provided with its own name as big as 'Hampshire Tigers' on it.

I can't believe people are talking about boycotting shops and cancelling mobile phone contracts. No wonder the Echo gets away with it,the public are so gullible.

"As the soldiers prepare for their homecoming parade a number of high street giants have refused to display a poster of support but many have now had second thoughts" Many have been bullied into putting them up by this egocentric newspaper is how this should actually read, exactly the kind of opressive regime these troops have been fighting to eliminate over here, i'm personally more impressed by the shops that have stood up to your bullying ways than those that capitulated at the first sign of an Echo journo with a tatty poster in their grubby hands, Hang your collective heads in shame The Daily Echo

How about all these companies putting some money into a pool to help pay for bunting and flags to go up for the parade.
These lads help to protect all the companies interest one way or another.

This rag becomes more of a disgraceful excuse for journalism every day.

Sorry to break ranks but I don't want to see troops marching through Southampton after taking part in an illegal war (Iraq) and a dubious and pointless one (Afghanistan).

No need to break ranks as you have spectacularly missed the whole point.

Most of us wish to show that we are resolutely behind those that put their precious lives on the line.

They do not 'choose' where or when to fight despite the shared views on illegal and dubious wars - you have that one right at least.

If you happen to take time to read some of our history books, you will note that the UK has not been on the offensive for many years.

The two World Wars were fought on the basis of self defence as well as a committment to friendly countries (many of whom have short memories)

We have been suckered into the Middle East conflicts by our Anglo-American ties and due to lying cheating misguided politicians.

They are either stupid or have links to arms companies, oil concerns and much more.

They sleep soundly in their palatial homes as the youngsters put their lives on the line with every mission a few thousand miles away. We curse them and it's about time this country woke up and made some effort.

All the Echo needed to report was the time and place of the parade, plus a few words of support. This would have ensured a dignified parade with many true supporters showing up.
Instead, they've tried to reduce it to a local rag sponsored march. All that's needed now is a Daily Echo candy floss stall en route and maybe some Echo dodgems.
And troops waving Daily Echo flags.

The Echo is a tacky rag, that will exploit any situation for it's own aim,
I will support the parade by going.
We don't need the Echo bullying shops in to something they don't want to do. Saddam was a bully and a tyrant, the Taliban are bullies and tyrants, our brave boys and girls have been fighting these bullies, when the Tigers find out the local rag has been bullying the shops into supporting them I wonder what their reaction will be?

Well don't go to town or Romsey on Tuesday.

Stay in West End then.

This is not the place to try and score political points.

If you were that bothered "Echo", you would delete the name of your pitiful rag from your little posters. You care about as much as your dwindling circulation. Dinosaurs.
