A MAN has been arrested in Poland in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Southampton two years ago.
Gavin Hustler-Brown, a promising international-standard diver, died after being struck by a blue Vauxhall Astra as he walked near the Hobbit Pub, in Bevois Valley Road, Portswood on April 27, 2007.
Gavin, originally from Yorkshire, was a first year Criminology student at university in Southampton.
The car involved in the incident was later found abandoned in Alma Road, Southampton.
Roads Policing Unit officers issued an appeal to trace its driver, Lukasz Banasik, shortly after.
Banasik, now 22 and a Polish national, was believed to have travelled back to Poland.
Officers in Poland arrested him last week, believed to be near Gdansk. He is currently being held in custody.
RPU officers have been liaising with authorities in Poland and Interpol with a view to confirming details and commencing procedures to have him returned to the UK. Mr Hustler-Brown’s family have been informed.
