Andrew Miller avoids prison after assault at Alice Cooper concert

A ONE legged metal fan, who beat up another rocker at Alice Cooper concert at Southampton Guildhall, was today spared an immediate prison sentence.

Jurors heard how Andrew Miller, 46, sat bare chested and removed his artificial leg emblazoned with the motif of the music legend in the front row of the balcony.

Andrew Miller leaving court in Southampton today.

But violence flared during the support act when John Lynch complained he was encroaching on his seat as they sat next to each other. Fearing trouble might erupt, his wife suggested they should leave but Miller grabbed him and punched him several times on the head and face.

The city crown court was told Mr Lynch was taken to hospital suffering from a cut wrist and facial bruising.

Miller, of Southbourne, West Sussex, denied causing actual bodily harm, claiming he was in considerable pain and removed his artificial leg, putting the stump and his other leg on the balcony to avoid suffering a thrombosis.

He maintained he had only punched Mr Lynch because he feared he would fall over the balcony.

Imposing a 36 weeks suspended sentence coupled with 18 months supervision because of his epilepsy, Judge John Boggis QC today told him: "It is perfectly clear you were making an exhibition and making a nuisance of yourself. You took your prosthetic leg off and were waving it at those behind you. You were spreading yourself around."

Miller was also told to observe a three month curfew and pay £250 compensation whose evening, said the judge, had been "ruined."

Why am I suprised. Southampton's a haven for bigots of all types. Sensitivity towards the disabled is clearly an ask too far.

OK I hold my hands up and admit to a silly post.

However - I have a pal who lost both legs in a motorbike accident and he jokes about it all the time. That's how it is with any kind of disability and I'm sure that most of us idiots do not really wish to 'offend' (that word again) anyone.

Not everybody is like him so it's a fair comment

This gentleman was in court on a fairly serious charge and it follows on that it will attract the daft responses such as mine.

To be fair - this particular story does tend to provoke a light hearted response.

Miller displayed eccentric behaviour by waving his artificial leg around - this indicates that he does it on a regular basis and for a laugh/reaction etc?

I've seen many people whip out their false teeth/glass eyeand let an artificial arm slide down their sleeve.

Nobody is really being 'bigoted' although some may be 'offended' - what's new?

French call us 'Les rosbifs' Do we retaliate against the frogs?

Irish tell gags about 'Kerrymen' etc etc The Germans are well represented in the banter stakes

I could write a very long list of similar terms that relate to any number of countries, races etc so what does it all boil down to?

We are aware of the N word and its connotations/history etc but it's only a word.

Lenny Bruce had it right all those years ago but he was deemed 'offensive' at that very straight laced time

Let's hope none of you ever end up an amputee.

Or if you do, I hope you have a dam good sense of humour about it.

It's not Miller I'm worried about, but there will be other people out thee reading these comments that won't find them very amusing.

Why am I suprised. Southampton's a haven for bigots of all types. Sensitivity towards the disabled is clearly an ask too far.
Boring prig! All the disabled - sorry, differently abled - people I know have a wicked sense of humour and are most adept at poking fun at themselves.

Get a life saddo - none of these comments are the least bit offensive.
Poking fun at yourself is the perogative of those individuals, not yours.

King Mush's response is far more reasonable and measured, and makes you look an utter tw*t in comparison.
I am disabled you pompous a*rse and I KNOW what is offensive and what is not. WE don't need sanctimonious prats like you 'standing up' for us. We're more than capable of looking after ourselves.

Who's a tw*t now?
Course you are. Am I?

Are you an amputee?

Can you speak for amputees?

If not, I suggest you stop speaking on behalf of all disabled people of all varieties.

"us", "we" - Oh my f*cking word. You tw*t.
Plurrrrrlease get a sense of perspective here!! We're taking the mick out of him, as a individual who is a violent idiot. We all would never dream of walking up to someone in the street and abusing them because they had one limb - it doesn't bother us or them (and I know someone who had diabetes who had half their leg removed) that of course would be wrong....

My two sons are disabled and one of my closest friends uses a wheelchair. She wouldn't take offence at this, she would laugh like a drain. If we take ourselves too seriously life isn't worth living! Obviously no-one is having a go at people with one limb in general, just this blithering numpty who really ought to know better! He deserves everything that is thrown at him, rather unlike the people who were at the end of him threatening them with his false leg! If you use your disability to intimidate people then you cannot expect people to respect it!

No-one here is slagging off people with disabilities in general, just him! Frankly, after his behaviour he deserves little respect about anything!

PILLOCK!
WHAT the hell are you on reality man my ARSE
funny how you just turned up, with appropriate disability at this point isn't it.... hmmmmm... wonder if you were put up to it? I guess we'll never know!

I will state again as these comments are not directed at disabled people in general I really don't see what the problem is!? (speaking as a mother of two disabled sons whose disability is very visual)....

If you're offended, then I suggest you turn off computer. Or spend 5 mins on YouTube and you will see stuff that is really horrifically awful against disabled people, and by genuinely horrible bigots who have nothing better to do. People's comments here are hardly the same thing, particularly as he used his disability to intimidate people and has obviously done it before! We are all intelligent enough to realise that this is a one-off and not tar amputees with the same brush - now that would be daft!

ps (is 'tar' and 'brush' politically incorrect??)

freemantlegirl2, - you’re absolutely spot on…..

chunkybutt is from down the coast, and lacks any intelligence or back bone…perhaps he/she also lost a brain as well as the other bits and pieces...

The majority of comments are good clean fun, but some have got the hump and blown things out of all proportion…
