Disabled sailor a national ‘inspiration’

RECORD-breaking disabled Hampshire sailor Geoff Holt has scooped a top national award recognising him as one of the most inspirational people in the country.

The 43-year-old, pictured, who last year became the first disabled person to sail solo around Britain, was crowned British Airways Great Briton in recognition of his sailing achievements, which have also included setting up the Sailability charity.

His latest project will see Geoff, who is paralysed from the chest down, sail single-handed across the Atlantic to Antigua on a 60ft catamaran in December.

In recognition of his win, British Airways have said they will fly Geoff’s wife Elaine and son Tim out from their home in Shedfield to see him finish the epic feat.

Good stuff.

Here is a guy with the moral fibre sadly lacking in many others.

I have met Geoff on several occasions :D at various charity functions. He is a total inspiration and a lovely guy! A lovely family in fact.
Several disabled young people have already benefited from the Sailability charity this summer holidays in Southampton too and will continue to do so. Geoff's vision and experiences have all been put to excellent use to help others. I'm chuffed to see him get this award! :D

What an achievement. I had not realized the shedfield had an airport. Bob will be pleased on his return home to find that he now lives under a flight path.
