USKMOUTH Power Station is under new ownership after owners agreed a £27 million deal.
Welsh Power Group Ltd, which has owned and operated the 363 megawatt coal-fired power station since 2004, sold the site to Scottish and Southern Energy PLC (SSE) yesterday.
The station employs more than 100 people, all of whom will be kept on.
SSE, the parent company of Welsh energy supplier SWALEC, intends to look into opportunities to develop low carbon generation assets alongside existing assets on the site.
Alistair Phillips-Davies, SSE energy supply director, said: “It is generally accepted that the UK’s coal-fired power stations still have a crucial role to play in keeping the lights on and Uskmouth has the flexibility to help meet demand for power for many years to come.”
Welsh Power chief executive, Alex Lambie, said: “I would like to thank all the staff at Uskmouth Power for their unrivalled professionalism, loyalty and excellence in the five years since Welsh Power acquired the station in 2004.”
