Passengers heading to the capital on board one of the Iconic Greyhound coaches are stranded on the motorway.

Just three days since the American giant launched its first UK service from Southampton to London, promising unrivalled quality and customer service, one of the coaches has broken down.

To add to the embarrassment, managing director of Greyhound Alex Warner was on board being interviewed by Radio 4 presenter Peter White.

The coach, which left Southampton at 9.10am this morning, suddenly lost power as it travelled along the M3, near Farnborough.

The driver was able to pull over to the hard shoulder, where his ten passengers are waiting for minibuses to pick them up and take them the rest of the way.

It is believed that although the fuel gauge indicates that the tank is a quarter full, the coach has run out of petrol.

Pam Reddin, one of the passengers on board, said: "The driver did really well to pull over to a safe spot on the hard shoulder because we were just passing through a contra-flow.

"Everyone on board is in good spirits at the moment but I think it is particularly embarrassing because Peter White was on board interviewing the managing director."

The launch of the service has sparked a price war between Greyhound and National Express vying for the cheapest way of getting to the capital from Southampton.
