Alternative energy on the agenda

8:27am Monday 21st September 2009

THE possibility of introducing wind turbines, geothermal power and tidal energy to Southampton will be discussed by experts tonight.

Southampton Friends of the Earth and Transition Southampton have organised a public meeting to discover how renewable energy can be introduced to the city.

Plans to introduce wind turbines to Southampton were scrapped last year, but tonight’s meeting – from 7.30pm at Central Baptist Church, Devonshire Road, Polygon – will discuss that and other alternatives. Matthew Dean, a member of Southampton City Council, and Southampton Test MP Alan Whitehead will speak at the meeting, which will be chaired by Friends of the Earth co-ordinator Chris Bluemel.
