FIRST THERE was Tom and Jerry, then there was Kermit and Miss Piggy – but now there’s a new unlikely duo ready to take the oddest couple crown.
Dogs are often said to be man’s best friend but for one Hampshire hound it is a horse that has proved to be the paw-fect buddy.
Whether it is to keep each other company on long walks near their home in Wickham or to avoid the loneliness of dinner for one, this eight-legged double act are inseparable.
So unique is their friendship that Chico the Labrador and Midge the American Quarter horse have been named Britain’s oddest couple in a national competition.
The best pals have their owner, ten-year-old Austen Wallis, to thank for their new found fame, because it was him who nominated them for the awards, hosted by children’s television channel, Boomerang.
Their outdoor antics which sees three-year-old Chico take 16-year-old Midge for a walk, leading him by a piece of rope and their enjoyment when eating together never fails to bring a smile to the faces of passers-by.
Austen said: “Chico and Midge are really good friends and they spend most of their time together. Chico is the loopy, cheeky one and Midge is the sensible one, but they have always enjoyed each other’s company.”
