A MAJOR set of roadworks is set to begin at a Hampshire motorway junction tomorrow – though drivers may not feel the affects until November.
Workmen are set to move in at junction five of the M27 to begin a £2.65m programme of improvements aimed at easing congestion. Transport bosses say any work that affects traffic flow in the area will not start until the middle of next month.
Hampshire County Council wants to introduce a segregated left turn lane between the westbound off-slip and the A335 Stoneham Way southbound carriageway.
Meanwhile, extra left turn lanes will be provided and the remaining roundabout approaches are to be widened. The roundabout will also be widened to three lanes and the junction will be fully controlled with traffic lights.
The council’s cabinet member for environment Mel Kendal said: “It is important for us to take steps to improve the junction’s capacity now, especially when you consider the planned growth for the area over the next 20 years or so.”

Last Friday there was a power out situation in Swaythling and none of the traffic lights were working, guess what?? No traffic queues!
