Keith Mann faked heart attack during robbery by Abbey Springer, James Page and Paul Douglas

A SOUTHAMPTON man had to fake a heart attack in order to stop a knife attack in which a gang stabbed him twice.

Keith Mann, 62, spent three days in intensive care after being stabbed in the chest when a gang of would-be robbers burst into his home.

The Southampton Crown Court heard how Mr Mann was woken by the sound of knocking on his front door in the middle of the night.

Through the spyhole he saw Abbey Springer, who had been at his flat earlier that day.

The court heard how Mr Mann had told Springer, 22, of his holiday plans and that he had £2,000 cash kept at his flat for spending money.

Prosecutor Mark Florida- James said Springer had relayed this information to her then boyfriend, who told her to go back and get the money.

She recruited James Page, who was only 17 at the time, and Paul Douglas as “muscle”.

After opening the door, Mr Mann was overpowered by the two men, who wore hoods over their faces, as they barged their way in.

During the struggle, Page, who was armed with a knife, stabbed Mr Mann.

The father-of-two then faked a heart attack to stop the assault, prompting the two men to begin searching his home for cash.

Seeing his opportunity, Mr Mann dashed outside his St Matthews Close home to raise the alarm. It was only then he realised he had been stabbed.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, he said: “There was blood everywhere. The adrenaline was pumping and I didn’t realise what had happened.”

As Mr Mann stood outside, he saw the trio flee the scene. He was taken to hospital suffering from a punctured lung.

Mum-of-two Springer, of Ovington Road, Eastleigh, and Douglas, 24, of no fixed abode, were jailed for four years.

Page, 18, of Obelisk Road, Southampton was handed a three-year prison term.

After the case Mr Mann said: “I just hope they realise what they have done. I could be dead.

I still get anxious in my flat and I think I will always suffer from the effects of what happened to me. I just hope they learn their lesson.”

They certainly look an evil trio and deserve everything they got and perhaps even longer sentences but it was sheer folly to tell Springer he had £2,000 in the flat. Hope Mr Mann has made a full recovery.

Agreed. Four years is unduly lenient. I take it Judge Boggis wasn't preciding?

I bet he wasn't, Good old Bang-Um-Up Boggis would handed down far more stiffer sentence, I would imagine the maximum sentence allowed for this type of crime, and they would have left the court with scathing words ringing in there ears,I wish more judges were like the Bog

I agree with all comments. 4 years .....out in 3 for stabbing this man. If he didnt have the presence of mind to fake a heart attack what would have happened I wonder. They should have got 10 minimum for this planned crime. No deterent for other criminals its a disgrace.

Really !! Is Keith Martin related in any way to Keith Mann ? If you know for a fact that he is actually in the drug ring (any particular one ?), then I'm sure Her Majesty's Constabulary would have been interested in a little chat with you. Maybe one of the questions they would be asking you is exactly HOW you know this.

After your post, I'd be careful about saying who needs psychiatric treatment, might come back and bite you in the butt. Hope you are proud of your offspring, any more delightful little creatures like this at home ?

Personally, if I was the parent of this charmer, I would inclined to keep quiet about it and not broadcast my name for all to see. I have to give you ten out of ten for the name and shame game though.

Hope Mr Mann recovers from his ordeal.

Well Carol, it what you say is true, then the police need to act quickly to get this scum off our streets, but first and foremost, you need to go to parenting classes. Makes me sick to my stomach to think what some people are allowing their kids to turn into these days..literally sick to my stomach!!!!

Pathetic sentences for these evil people. Hopefully Keith MANN will think more carefully about who he hangs around with and invites into his house/tells about his cash and holiday plans!
