A TEAM of Army cadets from the Kings’ School detachment has won the regional military skills competition.
They were placed third nationally during a gruelling contest for youngsters from The Rifles regimental detachments across the country.
Thirteen teams spread from Devon to Merseyside took part with all the others recruiting from across their counties, but for Winchester this was not possible as they are the only Rifles cadets in Hampshire, so they did particularly well.
Team captain Cadet Sergeant Toby Orrell also won the London and Home Counties Best Cadet award for the event.
Taking place over a 24 hour period on Salisbury Plain, the event had youngsters practising map reading, first aid, section attacks, command tasks, vehicle control, assault course and giving a presentation on the regiment – all while living in the field.
