IT IS a world away from the typical beat-up student runaround and costs more insurance than many people earn in a year.
But then Southampton’s own football WAG Mel Slade is no ordinary student.
This is the £140,000 Ferrari California she received as a 21st birthday gift from her former Saints star boyfriend Theo Walcott.
The England and Arsenal winger, 20,who earns around £60,000 a week, splashed out on the supercar to replace a white VW Beetle he bought her three years ago.
The Italian motor boasts a top speed of 192mph, does 0 to 60mph in less than four seconds, and comes with an annual insurance premium of more than £20,000.
Ex-Itchen College pupil Mel, who is the daughter of Southampton councillor and former city mayor John Slade, was said to be “over the moon” with the car.
She is now in the second year of a physiotherapy course at St George's University Hospital in London where she is a top class student.
Her Southampton family joined her birthday celebrations at a party on Friday.
Mel shot to stardom aged 17 when Theo was picked for the England squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
The couple met when Mel worked at Claire’s Accessories in WestQuay shopping centre while Theo was playing for Southampton.
