Motorway accidents causing tailbacks

A MOTORIST had to be cut free from his car after two vehicles were involved in a crash with a lorry on a Hampshire motorway.

Police are warning drivers they could face 80-minute queues, with tailbacks stretching up to eight miles along the M27.

Two cars were involved in a crash with an articulated lorry just before the exit slip at Junction 3 at 7.41am.

At least two lanes of the westbound carriageway were completely blocked for more than an hour as fire crews from St Mary's cut free the driver of a Skoda Octavia.

Although the full extent of the drivers' injuries is not yet known, but it is understood neither the man in the Octavia or the driver of the other car - a Ford Focus - suffered life-threatening injuries.

Recovery teams have now cleared the vehicles from the motorway, but there are still lengthy queues as traffic gets back to normal.

Queuing had stretched as far back as junction 7 at Hedge End on the westbound carriageway, with police warning it could take 80 minutes to complete the journey that would normally take around ten minutes.

Just minutes after the first crash, there was an unrelated collision on the westbound carriageway between junctions 9 for Fareham and 8 at Hamble, at 7.49am..

Two cars were involved in a collision near to the Hamble River bridge.

It is not clear whether anyone was injured in the incident, but emergency services were on the scene to clear the vehicles to the hard shoulder within around half an hour.

Whilst driving slowly in these tailbacks this morning the woman in the car behind (obesrved by my son as I was driving!!) managed to use her mobile phone (not handsfree). Do her hair with a brush in one hand and then proceeded to do her full make-up including taking her glasses off three times to do her eye make-up!!!

Can this be classed as driving with due care and attention???

No doubt she will go into work and moan about being stuck in traffic this morning!!

When are people going to wake up and realise that if you stop driving with a phone stuck to your ear or your glasses off so you can do your eye make-up then the roads would become a safer place with fewer accidents!!

You know who you are!!! Get up 5 minutes earlier put your make-up on before you leave home and then maybe it would make all our journeys a bit quicker and safer!!

Worse than that were the people travelling eastbound who were slowing in order to TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS of the scene with their camera phones.

Absolutely scandalous.

No doubt the lorry was driving too close to the vehicle infront.

Quiet frequently see lorry drivers driving as close as 5 meters behind the vehicle infront, including other lorries.

I wish the octavia Driver all the best with his recovery.

People do that all the time. RTC's, Air Ambulance loading and unloading patients, public scenes. Some motorists even pull in front of the ambulance on it's way to an emergency/hospital to film it from their back window (usually on the motorways).

Lorry drivers have to keep a longer distance to the vehicle in front because of it's inability to stop as quickly than a car/van.
You will never see a lorry stop -start when in a queue of traffic - he will always try and maintain a steady speed to prevent this. However there are always drivers of smaller vehicles "nipping in" and this closes the gap.
This is why "Stupideditor" you often see a lorry 5 metres behind the car in front.

And what about in free flowing traffic, no excuse for driving so close to the vehicle infront.

Well, they do say that women are good at multi-tasking, but that's just showing off!
