A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson at a flat.
Fire crews were called after smoke was seen billowing from the windows of a top-floor apartment in Twyford Road, Eastleigh.
Nine firefighters from the town’s station tackled the blaze, which had broken out in a backroom of the second floor flat.
An arson investigation team was sent to the scene yesterday afternoon and a 38-year-old woman from Eastleigh was arrested.
Police have appealed for information.
Nobody was in the block of apartments when the fire broke out.
The building is run by the First Wessex housing group, which has vowed to work with police following the incident.
A spokesman said: “The property was unoccupied at the time of the incident and First Wessex will be working with any affected residents, Hampshire Constabulary and Hampshire Fire and Rescue to resolve the situation.”
Anyone with information about the fire, which started at around 10.30am yesterday, should contact PC Phil Dennett at Eastleigh Police Station on 0845 045 4545.
