Guardian angels on duty outside school

THEY have patrolled the streets at night acting as guardian angels for revellers leaving pubs and clubs across Hampshire.

Now church members are helping to ensure that children leaving school each day return home safely.

When the school bell rings at the end of the day, pupils will be greeted by uniformed teams of school pastors, who aim to put an end to antisocial behaviour and offer a listening ear for those who feel vulnerable.

Students at Wyvern Technology College in Fair Oak will be the first in the country to benefit from the church-led initiative.

This new team, made up of trained volunteers from congregations of local churches, follows on from the success of the street pastors project, which has been operating in Fair Oak since February 2007.
