SCIENTISTS at the University of Southampton have helped to discover five new genetic variations associated with lung disease.
Their breakthrough could bring hope to the thousands of people across our region suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and asthma.
Up until now it has been difficult to develop new treatments because the molecular make-up of the lungs is not completely understood.
Now it is hoped the latest discovery could lead to the development of more effective drugs.
