AN investigation is underway into the cause of a fire that wrecked a Hampshire sports club last night.
Crews totalling 20 firefighters battled the blaze at Milford Tennis and Squash Club for two and half hours.
Almost half of the single-storey sports facility, on Lucerne Road, Milford-on-Sea, in the New Forest, was scorched by the fire but the whole building suffered smoke damage.
The fire broke out at 5.25pm.
Crews from Lymington, New Milton and Eastleigh were called out.
Nobody was injured in the fire and the club is thought to have been empty.
The building is a brick and timber structure, 30 metres by 10.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman told the Daily Echo: "Fire investigation officers are currently on the scene.
"Their findings will determine whether the investigation is carried out by us or the police."
