Sixties music star Jet Harris, who lives in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight and was bass guitarist with the legendary Shadows, is made an MBE for his services to music.
The 70 year-old told the Daily Echo: “I am absolutely thrilled to bits. I can thank the fans for this. I am so proud and I get a medal as well.”
Jet joined Cliff Richard’s backing group, which was then called The Drifters, in 1959.
After coming up with the new name, he left the band and forged a partnership with former Shadows’ drummer, the late Tony Meehan and they topped the UK single charts in the 1960s with Diamonds. He still tours regularly in Britain and Europe.
