Southampton v Huddersfield Town is postponed due to cold weather

SAINTS' League One clash with Huddersfield Town has been called off.

Temperatures are not expected to climb above freezing before the game was due to kick-off, meaning the snow and ice will remain in place.

As a result, the game has been called off and is to be rescheduled, possibly giving Alan Pardew's men a fixture pile-up.

In a statement, Saints said: "The cold snap which has hit the south coast over the last few days means that the pitch at St Mary's has no chance of recovery from the freezing temperatures seen after last weekend's hosting of Luton Town.

"Overnight temperatures are forecast to be well below freezing for the next few days, therefore the playing surface and the stadium's surrounding areas, which are currently treacherous in places, are unlikely to improve.

"Huddersfield Town were due to leave on Friday morning to make their journey south, so the decision was made as early as possible to avoid any unnecessary travelling by fans and players alike.

"Delaying any decision is merely putting off the inevitable."

Calling this game off will work for the Saints. It will give the players a break esp RL, and hopefully then the new faces will have appeared. Win, win situation and if we do play will win any way. Huddersfield will not fancy the trip down.

I don't think it has anything to do with the surrounding area - even though the pitch is covered it could be too dangerous to play on.
The pitch at Leeds was definitely a bit dodgey - we don't need injuries at this stage of the seaon.

That would be one hell of a goal, from the stands. ;-D Sadly Morgan is suspended for the next match.

I'm 99% sure we don't have undersoil heating, as I remember it being said at the time that "we rarely have a match postponed due to a frozen pitch" and therefore, the extra cost couldn't be justified. Saturday was always going to be in serious doubt, so I guess the early decision is a sensible one for all concerned.

Under normal circumstances I would agree optimist, and offer my own services as well, as I`m a "frozen off" bricklayer at the moment.
The thing is, it`s like the previous posters have said. This will give the boys a bit of an unexpected respite and give us a chance to bed in any new players.

Both kick off at 3.00!
Its going to be tough but I'm betting we come away with all six points.

As someone who travels 400 miles by road to see his beloved Saints at St Mary’s, this is one Season Ticket Holder who, although disappointed, is grateful to be told well in advance the game against the Tykes has been postponed. I daresay our travelling supporters in Cambridgeshire, Canterbury, Cardiff, London, Manchester and the Midlands will also appreciate the “health & safety do-gooders” for their intervention and so not have to risk making the journey.

I suppose there are Saint’s fans that still believe all those attending St Mary’s live locally!

I’m not sure they have games in Moscow at this time of year. I know the Scandinavian clubs take a long winter because of the snow and temperatures.

As for St Mary’s not having under soil heating, what’s the point installing something that’s only going to be used once every three decades or so.

I am seriously worried about the hectic schedule for the remainder of the season and the chance of KEY player risk of injury.
As AP has stated he is very serious in his ambition to do well in all cup competitions and must have plans in hand re transfers to ensure cover in the event of losing one or two key players.

As a 1/2 season ticket holder for myself and my two young boys, we have had sats game and the Swindon game postponed, but am not overly dissapointed as it creates two evening games which I always feel have a far more intense feeling to them. Also had sat's game gone on, the crowd would have been smaller than expected, which would have been a shame.

A rest for the players is fine, and those on the injured list, especially Graeme Murty. Let's hope he will be fit for the rearranged match against Huddersfield. His experience on the field has been sorely missed by all of us, I believe. Looking forward to our next home match, let's be there in force.

Just been to the stadium for a meeting, the pitch is covered with sheets, the sheets are covered in snow, the groundsman has said it's playable (today) but with the forecast due to get worse, who know's, that's what I was told by someone in the stadium.

Having walked there from town via the new train bridge, I can quite see why it's been called off. I slipped numerous times (without having a beer) from Kingsland Square, so I'm glad it's been called off because with a few pints inside me on Saturday I might have been spending the night in A and E.

Let's not forget we were due to play Huddersfield so travel for them might have been an issue, as well.

A sensible decision, made early enough, I think

The only problem there Shaving is, Moscow has months and months of snow every single year. Thus they have the resources to deal with it. Can you imagine the fuss people would make if their local council blow millions on snow ploughs etc, just incase there might be some snow. They would only be used every few years. Left to rot in some yard.

....here boys and girls.....sweet ......TROUBLED Portsmouth last night put their whole squad up for sale.
And Starsport can reveal that the cash-strapped outfit are so desperate for money they even asked the Premier League to guarantee a loan so they could pay their players. Portsmouth secured a lending facility to cover the outstanding £1.8m wage bill.
But one of the conditions was that the League guaranteed the money – and they refused to do so.
Pompey’s first-team squad have STILL not been paid their December salaries, which are now seven days overdue.
And the Professional Footballers’ Association will hold showdown talks with the club today to resolve it.
PFA chief Gordon Taylor said: “We have been assured the monies will be paid this week.”
Portsmouth are under a transfer embargo which will not be lifted until they prove they can pay off their debts.
The situation is so bad they will listen to offers for all 24 senior players along with more than 20 of the youth squad.
French defender Younes Kaboul has been singled-out as the club’s most valuable asset and is close to a £5m switch to Lyon.
Nigerian John Utaka is in talks about a cut-price move to Sochaux.
But a Tottenham swoop for England No. 1 David James has been thrown into doubt by the keeper’s wage demands.

I think I have a possible solution. The "Little Saint" Creche! Use the away coaches as the venue. Chuck the driver a £5. Give em marker pens, paint, glue and a project! Collect your very happy little un's when the games finished. What could possibly go wrong?

It's a blow for this match to be called off, with 3 matches postponed and needing to be re-arranged this month already? our fixture list is piling up, however I think it may just be a blessing in disguise because Saint's players have looked very jaded and tired of late due to the hard work the players have performed during the first half of the season, So it could work in our favour as could the fact that because we have indoor training facilities we can still train fully unlike most clubs in league 1! Hopefully by the Millwall game AP may have some new signing's as well which would be excellent, plenty of rumours which I hope do come true?

Palace and the London Press:
Jose Fonte not coming to Saints as we would not meet his wage demands as "personal terms" scupper the move despite Club excepting a 1.5m deal.
I'm pleased Saints remain sensible on this issue L1 players get L1 pay.
Saints also interested in midfielder Neil Danns but wages may stop that too.

Like the thought of Elliot Ward but Matt Thornhill only got used 7 times for Brighton so could at best be a loaner.

The fact that the rumour mill is so flappy shows how busy Pards must be at the moment.. he'll be relishing the extra time given by the match postponement.

Get em in Pards.. we're sending lots of POS+ thoughts.

We know not to get hopes up until Pards or Nicola make an announcement.

I am not a Xenophobe and have never had a serious problem with overseas players wearing the RED AND WHITE if they proove themselves to be good enough!
My point is this: If we all end up loving each other then where does the competitiveness come from?
Schools discourage it,the Police would prefer it if it did not exist, and the Polititions would be paid for doing even less!
COME ON YOU MULTI RACIAL RED AND WHITE ALAN PARDEW MACHINE!!!!!!!!!
PS ZULU BEER is a mind altering experience!
Dont go there! :-)

we got the pipes under the pitch but the previous regime couldn't afford a plumber! Do we know any plumbers that would do it for a couple of cans of zulu beer?
When the stadium was built all of the pipework was laid and the club decided not to connect it all up for two reasons. One..yes you are right ..the cost was too high...Secondly...be cause of the stadium location is next to sea. They then felt that it would take such extreme weather conditions to call the game off because of a frozen pitch...Now even if there was under soil heating the game would be called off because they would have to consider the paying supporters moving to and from the ground. If that makes sense ..thats the reason why it was never commissioned...But it can be !!
does sombody need a plumber/heating engineer,no job too small, all bills to be paid in cash !

Firstly, "follow your home team son...thru thick n thin...especially the thin..." he was a Palace fan you see...secondly, "...spread your seed son...spread it far and wide..." he was good with the women you see....and finally "lay off the Zulu beer son...cos you'll miss the kick off and not be able to raise one for the women!!!!"...I proved him wrong on that one...I'd never miss the kick off!!! :O)

Got yer Slugger! Me and my team have been on your case for some time now!! See you fell for the old Harleysaint unthreatening ,safe handle. My alter ego is Dave of the Tax Inspectorate! I am paid a rediculous amount of money to trawl these sites looking for over-confident "Lump Boys" As I see it you have two options: 1/. Confess your sins and admit to all the cash payments that you have received in the last twenty years. OR; 2/. Tell the authorities to "Eat your Shorts" untill they do something about stopping the overseas ponces nicking our Social Security money!! Dont have to use it myself (YET) but I know my old Mum deserves it more than the migrants!! If that is non PC then you can all kiss my furryBUTT COYRAWAPMACHINE
option 2 is right up my street !(am i in the clear now ?)they can kiss mine too !!!! COYR !!!!
Shreading the weighty files as we speak(type) **** Slugger,Me and the twelve man team are going to be up all night shreading this lot!! Al Capone took less time!!!
so,the brown envelope contained enough eh ? keep shreading !
Just remember this"Mr Slugger" The brown envelope has traces of your DNA unless like all successful lump boys you took the precaution of having the family pet lick the flap. Many of these creatures are on our database, including dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs! My advice is to use a reptile such as snake, one of those big lizards that dont do much or the untraceable Nigerian newt!! If you were not a Saint me and the department would not be cutting you this amount of slack! Just watch yourself sonny! That goes for all of you!!(unless your a SAINT) ps Feel free to grass a skate!! :-) COYRAWAPMACHINE!!!!! !!
My recommendation is to use the spit of the Patagonian Bursting Rabbit. The DNA equivalent of magnolia paint. It never fails! I understand that Redknapp insists on it, on all his brown envelopes!!
Harry uses them??!
Might explain why they have become an endangered species!
Ive heard that the climate in Parkstone,Poole is ideal for the Bursting Rabbits domestic propogation!

Be careful if you go out tommorrow as driving conditions are awful. I've just come off the road and hit a skate. It took me two fields and a golf course. But I got him

we got the pipes under the pitch but the previous regime couldn't afford a plumber! Do we know any plumbers that would do it for a couple of cans of zulu beer?

Heads up Lump Boys!
Always use the ink from the Mongolian octopus when addrressing the brown envelope, and always use the snot from the back of the Australian Box Jellyfish to seal the flap.
Forensics are at least ten years behind as we speak!!!
Good luck and good avoidance!
Dont forget to claim for painting the garden shed!!!

What about my duck house, I've already tried to claim for it once, ut Gordon wouldn't allow it.

Where are you flying in from Minnesota Saint?
perhaps the clue is in his username? ;)
Eastleigh maybe?
I am flying in from the States, get to take in 3 games and would hate to miss any of them due to sh1te weather, my last game was 13th April last year vs Palace.

That would be one hell of a goal, from the stands. ;-D Sadly Morgan is suspended for the next match.
Morgan is NOT suspended, his 5th booking was on the 2nd Jan. . The FA rules say " (a) CAUTIONS ADMINISTERED ON THE FIELD OF PLAY (i) If a Player accumulates five cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the Playing Season and 31 December (including any FTCM played on that day) in the same Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period covering: - One First Team Match . (ii) If a Player accumulates five cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the Playing Season and the last day of the same Season, he will be: - “Warned as to his Future Conduct”." etc.
I bow to your superior knowledge. The Official Site confirms we have no current suspensions.
Note to self. Do research before posting smart @rse comments.

Billy,Billy,Billy! I suspect that you are a youngish man? My Dad,bless him before he shuffled off this mortal alternator said, and I quote:"Harley!,whate ver you do in life will make me proud""Me and your Mum are quite concerned though at your apparent lack of direction" "Do the best you can with your 2 O levels and make a serious effort to meet a girl with more money than sense" And then he said something that untill recently made no sense at all. "Harley,he said:"Two pieces of advice" Firstly never eat yellow snow! Secondly, and more importantly "NEVER DRINK ZULU BEER" EVEN IF DYING OF THIRST!!! COYRAWAPMACHINE!!!
Harley...you are sooo right...I am a mere 46yrs young...and my dad too (before he took off for his final heavenly pub-crawl) did offer me some advice. :O)
Wise words Billy, especialy coming from one so young!
Did your Dear Old Dad ever take the time to explain to you why it is,regarding the Spreading of The Seed, that The Ladies cant keep up with the pace we set??
My Old Man thought that most of them are plain Unfit.
His philosophy, that he passed on when near the end of his journey, was
"Ive had mine"! "Now you get yours"
and always the parting shot:"Bye Dear, off to watch the Footie"
God I miss that man!!
COYRAWAPMACHINE!!!
