SAINTS' League One clash with Huddersfield Town has been called off.
Temperatures are not expected to climb above freezing before the game was due to kick-off, meaning the snow and ice will remain in place.
As a result, the game has been called off and is to be rescheduled, possibly giving Alan Pardew's men a fixture pile-up.
In a statement, Saints said: "The cold snap which has hit the south coast over the last few days means that the pitch at St Mary's has no chance of recovery from the freezing temperatures seen after last weekend's hosting of Luton Town.
"Overnight temperatures are forecast to be well below freezing for the next few days, therefore the playing surface and the stadium's surrounding areas, which are currently treacherous in places, are unlikely to improve.
"Huddersfield Town were due to leave on Friday morning to make their journey south, so the decision was made as early as possible to avoid any unnecessary travelling by fans and players alike.
"Delaying any decision is merely putting off the inevitable."

Under pitch heating? im sure we have it? that and a rally for fans to get involved in gritting the roads round SMS and clearing the snow off the pitch for the game? seeming as we are a community club, id be happy to help out.

The lads are going to need all the rest they can because according to the OS we are playing both Swindon and Ipswich on the 23rd of Jan!!
Will that be at the same time or one after the other?
Both kick off at 3.00!
Its going to be tough but I'm betting we come away with all six points.
Two goalies in the same goal is bound to cause them problems!

As someone who travels 400 miles by road to see his beloved Saints at St Mary’s, this is one Season Ticket Holder who, although disappointed, is grateful to be told well in advance the game against the Tykes has been postponed. I daresay our travelling supporters in Cambridgeshire, Canterbury, Cardiff, London, Manchester and the Midlands will also appreciate the “health & safety do-gooders” for their intervention and so not have to risk making the journey. I suppose there are Saint’s fans that still believe all those attending St Mary’s live locally! I’m not sure they have games in Moscow at this time of year. I know the Scandinavian clubs take a long winter because of the snow and temperatures. As for St Mary’s not having under soil heating, what’s the point installing something that’s only going to be used once every three decades or so.

....here boys and girls.....sweet ......TROUBLED Portsmouth last night put their whole squad up for sale.
And Starsport can reveal that the cash-strapped outfit are so desperate for money they even asked the Premier League to guarantee a loan so they could pay their players. Portsmouth secured a lending facility to cover the outstanding £1.8m wage bill.
But one of the conditions was that the League guaranteed the money – and they refused to do so.
Pompey’s first-team squad have STILL not been paid their December salaries, which are now seven days overdue.
And the Professional Footballers’ Association will hold showdown talks with the club today to resolve it.
PFA chief Gordon Taylor said: “We have been assured the monies will be paid this week.”
Portsmouth are under a transfer embargo which will not be lifted until they prove they can pay off their debts.
The situation is so bad they will listen to offers for all 24 senior players along with more than 20 of the youth squad.
French defender Younes Kaboul has been singled-out as the club’s most valuable asset and is close to a £5m switch to Lyon.
Nigerian John Utaka is in talks about a cut-price move to Sochaux.
But a Tottenham swoop for England No. 1 David James has been thrown into doubt by the keeper’s wage demands.

See you fell for the old Harleysaint unthreatening ,safe handle.
My alter ego is Dave of the Tax Inspectorate!
I am paid a rediculous amount of money to trawl these sites looking for over-confident "Lump Boys"
As I see it you have two options:
1/. Confess your sins and admit to all the cash payments that you have received in the last twenty years.
OR;
2/. Tell the authorities to "Eat your Shorts" untill they do something about stopping the overseas ponces nicking our Social Security money!!
Dont have to use it myself (YET) but I know my old Mum deserves it more than the migrants!!
If that is non PC then you can all kiss my furryBUTT COYRAWAPMACHINE
