SOME things are just meant to be.

And for that reason general manager Nick Holmes thinks Salisbury City might be Wembley-bound this season.

Saints legend Holmes is a believer in fate as well as a fan of American football.

And he used 2010 Super Bowl champions New Orleans Saints as an example of how good times often come for those who have battled through the bad.

After bringing the curtain down on his distinguished playing career that included 14 years, 535 appearances and 64 goals at Saints, Holmes moved to the USA and “got to know American sports quite well.”

Though they weren’t his nearest team, one part of New Orleans Saints’ name meant there was only one team Dell legend Holmes was going to adopt.

Holmes believes their victory in this year’s Super Bowl was meant to be, an achievement that bought such joy to the city’s residents five years after the area was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

For hugely different reasons – severe cash woes, administration, a points deduction and transfer embargo – Salisbury have had adversity of their own to deal with over the last couple of seasons.

Off the field, their problems are easing. The transfer ban was lifted just towards the end of January, just in time for manager and ex-Saint Tommy Widdrington to bring in some reinforcements.

The Whites are also on the verge of exiting administration and are set for a much brighter financial future.
