Flowers for the foster mothers

THEY are the silent heroes changing the lives of thousands of children every year.

Providing shelter for children in the greatest of need all across Southampton foster mums were yesterday recognised for their outstanding contribution to childcare.

About 150 foster carers were presented with a bouquet of flowers ahead of Mother’s Day on Sunday.

Having fostered more than 200-children in 30-years of fostering Gill White received a special presentation from Southampton City Council chief executive Brad Roynon, pictured.

“I wanted to make a difference in children’s lives. To be part of that support and to help them reach their full potential,” said Gill, 54.

“Some children will return home, sometimes I’ll be working with adopters it’s a lovely feeling. It’s that warm feeling inside you just feel good for doing it.”

Lordswood resident Gill has two grown up children Lee and Nikki as well as two adopted children Sophie and Russell.

Well done to Gill White who carries out a fantstic roll in the community "mothering" some 200 children. If it comes to that all of the other mum's who carry out a fine job with their offspring.
.
Its just a pity that this council use it for a photo opportunity...sad or what

If you look at the difference between what this lady earns compared to the bloated salary Roynon picks up you can see why the public finances are in such a mess.

I think you're missing the point Lone ranger, without carrying out publicity activity and maximising photo opportunities such as this, how are Local Authorities meant to raise the profile and awareness of Fostering in order to attract new carers? Overly cynical comment.
