Teenager survives 150ft cliff fall

A 15-year-old boy told today of his lucky escape after he fell head first off a 150ft cliff only to suffer cuts, bruises and a broken wrist.

Taz Parker described how he had been playing with friends at the top of Culver Cliff, near Sandown, Isle of Wight, when he slipped on a slope and plunged over the edge.

He told the Isle of Wight County Press: ''I tried to grab hold of something, anything as I slid towards the drop but I couldn't stop myself going over and I was convinced I was going to die.

''I must have knocked myself out because I don't remember anything until I woke up at the foot of the cliff and tried to stand. I count myself lucky to be alive.''

His friends called for an ambulance and the teenager was taken to St Mary's Hospital in Newport where he was treated for the fracture and given seven stitches but was discharged less than 24 hours later.

His mother, Sharron, 46, a community care nurse, from Brading, said: ''He is so very lucky to have survived such a fall that was a result of stupid high jinx of teenagers despite being warned for years of the dangers of cliffs.''

A spokeswoman for the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service confirmed that an ambulance attended the incident and conveyed the teenager to hospital.
