Scheme launched to redevelop part of Thornhill

WORKMEN will today begin demolition work ahead of a £15 million scheme to redevelop a Southampton shopping precinct.

A ceremony will mark the beginning of the Hinkler Parade Regeneration Project this afternoon.

In the coming months, 17 shops, 22 flats and a five-storey block of 16 flats in Marston Road, will be ripped down.

Rising from the rubble will be a fresh mix of 106 homes, five new shops and a community centre - all under the new name of Prospect Place.

Representatives from all those involved in the project will meet at 12.30pm at the Natterbox Community Centre on Hinkler Parade to help start the demolition process.

I'd heard a similar scheme is to take place with the two tower blocks in Laxton Close in Sholing/Newtown. Does anyone know any more on that?

The prospect of getting the kerb-stones in Holcroft Road look pretty dismal, while they're planting enough trees to make it look like Harold Hilliers Gardens, I speak as a pensioner, who was mugged in the street, when my tyre was trashed as it clipped the sharp mitred corner in Hinkler Road, and am £54.75 out of pocket.....When are they going to install a gang who are capable of working to "British Standards"

How long before it becomes a no go area after completion, when the Yobs etc move back in?

Probably when they employ some decent polish workmen rather than our sorry indigenous lot. ;-)

Local chavs will meet up at the Hinkler Pub at 11-30am to initiate the first stages of demolition. Windows are designated as preliminary action and they will supply their own tools eg baseball bats, crowbars, sledgehamme
rs, machetes etc.

I like your thinking but they will probably wait till the building is finished, it is much more fun to destroy other peoples work than to do the work for them. It might affect their benefit!
