THE new chairman of a Hampshire charity has visited doctors looking for a cure for an illness that affects youngsters.
Dr Neil Hanley, who is leading research into childhood diabetes showed Lindsay Charlton around the Southampton General Hospital laboratory funded by Daily Echo-backed charity Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Mr Charlton, managing director of ITV Meridian, has become chairman of the charity and is bidding to make 2005 a bumper fundraising year.
The JDRF's major event is its 2005 Walk to Cure Diabetes on September 18 at Manor Farm Country Park in Bursledon.
Supporters are aiming to raise £100,000, beating last year's total of £90,000.
Jayne Ashley, regional development manager for JDRF, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Lindsay has agreed to head up our fourth south coast walk. With his support and leadership we feel certain that this will be our biggest walk to date."
