PLAYER-manager Graham Kemp is hoping an injection of frontline pace will hasten Brockenhurst's rise up the Sydenhams Wessex League.

Although Kemp made the Badgers a far tighter defensive unit when transforming them from basement no-hopers to top-half achievers last season, they scored only 49 league goals - the fourth lowest tally in the Wessex top flight.

Striker Lee Winsall has agreed to re-sign for 2004/5 having made a big impression in the final few games. He will be joined up front by another pace man, Chris Kennedy, a new arrival from Forest rivals Christchurch.

Kemp said: "We lacked a bit of natural pace last season, so hopefully Lee and Chris will be the answer to our problems.

"Chris got a lot of goals for Christchurch and Lee scored 68 times in local league football last season - 31 in the Sunday Premier and 37 on Saturdays. I know it's a different level, but he's tall, quick and skilful and he certainly knows where the back of the net is."

Kemp originally gave Winsall his Wessex break at Lymington & New Milton, but the striker's first-team opportunities were restricted by the likes of Leigh Phillips and Kevin Gill and he drifted off to Christchurch.

Defender Sean Cummings, another of Kemp's Linnets old boys, has also joined Brock along with former Winchester City youth goalkeeper Neil Potter from Poole Town.

Midfielder Paul White - AFC Bournemouth's youth team fitness coach and under-14s manager - has been named as Badgers' player-coach.

With major work being done to improve the Grigg Lane playing surface, Brock are restricting themselves to two home friendlies - against Havant on July 19 and Burgess Hill Town on July 24.
