Salisbury limped over the finishing line to secure top-seven spot courtesy of other results, but disappointed a 903-strong crowd by going down 3-0 to title chasers Kings Lynn with Jack Defty grabbing two late goals in a four-minute spell to kill the game.

The sum total of the Whites' decent efforts were a Craig Davis effort that was well saved on 44 minutes and a second-half surge from Wayne Turk, whose shot was blocked.

But Lynn shaved the bar through David Staff and had another effort cleared off the line by Scott Bartlett before Defty converted a Staff cross on 67 minutes.

Four minutes later, an identical move saw Defty head in his and Lynn's second and, as Salisbury visibly wilted, the visitors improved their goal difference when Staff cut in from the left before picking his spot with a strike into the top corner with three minutes left.

After the match, Tom Killick said: "Kings Lynn are possibly the best side we've played all season.

"They did to us today what we did to them two weeks ago but we have consolation of finishing in the top seven.

"That was what we set out to achieve at the beginning of the season, so it's mission accomplished."
