Lymington & New Milton boss Ian Robinson made a successful return his old Testwood Park stamping ground on Saturday as the Linnets came from behind to chalk up a 3-1 Wessex League success at Totton.

And all three Lymington & New Milton goals came from former Totton players to help the club close the gap on third-placed Gosport Borough to just two points following their 2-0 demise at Andover.

Martin Whiddett gave Totton a 25th minute lead with a looping header but the visitors were soon back on terms when Patrick James slotted home following some neat interplay.

Kevin Reacord rifled in a 25-yarder after 65 minutes and, five minutes later, Ben Thomson and Phil Stone swapped passes before Thomson stroked his shot under the Totton keeper.

"We already managed to secure fourth place in the table and I'm very happy with that and would certainly have taken it at the start of the season," said Robinson.

"With Gosport losing 2-0 at Andover, it closes the gap to two points and gives us a chance of possibly sneaking third spot," he added.

Linnets entertain Hamble ASSC tomorrow when Gosport also host Bournemouth Poppies, and both travel on the final day of the season next Saturday - Gosport are at Thatcham while Linnets visit Winchester City.

Two-goal Justin Bennett steered Andover to their 2-0 home success against Gosport and Lions' chairman Alan Mussel warned: "Look out Wimborne Town next Saturday!

"We're really coming good now, this was an excellent three points for us and we're looking to finish the season as high as we can," he added.

A trip on Danny Sullivan midway through the first half saw Bennett open the scoring from the penalty spot and he added another ten minutes from time after latching on to a through ball and lobbing the keeper.

The highest AFC Newbury can finish now is in fifth spot after they were soundly beaten 3-1 at Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

Darren Crook gave the Wiltshire side an interval lead and two more Stu Findlay strikes after the break put Bemerton in control before Ashley Vine headed in an 85th minute consolation.

Newbury's Jim Goslin groaned: "It looked as though a few of our lads couldn't wait to go on their holidays!"

Seventh-placed Fareham Town were indebted to second-half strike from Rob Cox for their 1-0 win away at Portland United.

The only goal of the game came midway through the second period when Cox latched onto Lee Webber's defence-splitting through ball and he rounded the keeper to grab all three points.

"We've got the win but more importantly we've come through the match unscathed injury wise.

"We're looking towards Farnborough Town in the Hampshire Senior Cup final on Wednesday week and we don't want anyone missing out now," said Fareham boss Jon Gittens.

Both BAT and Christchurch took the opportunity to field some young blood as the two sides shared a 1-1 draw at Southern Gardens.

The Tobaccomen took the lead on 20 minutes after Richie Gregory went off on a terrific run which saw him beat three Christchurch players before picking out Dave Roberts who crashed the ball home.

Paul West hit an upright before the visitors equalised ten minutes from time through John Wyatt who headed in a Martin Lawrence free-kick.
